On a recent sunny morning in Collingwood, we hosted a special breakfast at Hope Street Radio to celebrate the opening of our new HAY Melbourne store, plus the new HAY Phaidon book and HAY's 20th anniversary. Head chef Ellie Bouhadana created a beautiful breakfast menu, which was enjoyed by a lovely group of guests from Melbourne's creative design community.

Guests arrived at Collingwood Yards and enjoyed coffee in the sunshine before sitting down for breakfast at Hope Street Radio - a beloved online broadcasting platform that put down its roots within Melbourne’s creative community with a permanent space designed by architect Peter Frederick Cole, bringing together the radio station, restaurant, and a bar under one roof.

During the event, we celebrated the launch of the new HAY Phaidon book. Coinciding with HAY's 20th anniversary, this new inspiring book explores HAY's origins and astronomical trajectory - starting in 2002 when husband and wife Rolf and Mette Hay founded the company. New in stock, both in store and online now - shop now here.

The walls and ceilings at Hope Street Radio are adorned with with a bespoke, whimsical mural by local Melbourne artist Alice McIntosh, echoing the same playfulness HAY is know for globally. The breakfast table was set with a range of the latest HAY homewares including the Sobremesa tablecloth by Laila Gohar, Splash vase, Green jug, French press brewer and more.

Guests enjoyed a beautiful breakfast menu created by Ellie Bouhadana (Head Chef at Hope Street Radio), which included crudités with summer vegetables, eggs with anchovies, labne with pickles, fresh focaccia with whipped butter and seasonal fruit.

Breakfast was served with the new HAY Splash platters and HAY Soft Ice platters, and wildflower arrangements by XX Flos added a summer feel to the vibrant tablescape.

Cult Founder and Director, Richard Munao, welcomed guests and shared a few words about the 20-year partnership between Cult and HAY and the new HAY Melbourne store.

Breakfast was enjoyed by more than 35 guests from Melbourne's creative community including media partners from The Design Files, Est Living, Inside, Australian Design Review, Broadsheet, Design Anthology, The Local Project, Habitus, Indesign and Artichoke; along with stylists Stephanie Stamatis, Heather Nette King, Bree Leech, Heilam Choi and Bek Shepperd; plus artists and creatives including Julia Busuttil Nishimura, Jasmine Mansbridge, Liz Sunshine, Beci Orpin, Adam Goodrum and Miranda Skoczek.

All guests received a Candy Stripe gift bag with a copy of the new HAY Phaidon book and other treats from HAY.

After breakfast, guests walked up the road to the new HAY Melbourne store for a special guided tour with Joerg Esslinger (HAY Asia Pacific Manager), along with some of the store design collaborators including Adam Goodrum and Jasmine Mansbridge.

Nestled on the corner of Johnston and Napier streets in Fitzroy, the premium 160m2 HAY Melbourne store is managed and operated by Cult Design, and brings a full retail experience of the world of HAY to Melbourne design lovers.
