On show for two weeks only, CHROMA is a kaleidoscopic installation unveiling HAY's new Eco Collection, recrafted from household waste.
This exhibition at HAY Melbourne re-launches two bestselling HAY ranges - the iconic About A Collection and Colour Crate - which are now made with 100% recycled post-consumer plastic waste; a material derived from household waste, like televisions and washing machines.
HAY’s About A Collection and Colour Crate are now made with 100% recycled post- consumer plastic.In celebration, HAY Melbourne presents a colourful exhibition showcasing these new designs.
Through a series of installations, including the world-travelling Colour Crate House direct from Copenhagen’s 3 Days of Design festival, this exhibition shines a light on HAY’s new additions made using recycled content through the brand’s characteristically colourful and joyous expression.
For more than 20 years HAY has created durable and functional furniture, lighting and accessories for everyday life. Step by step, HAY is finding new and smarter methods and materials to reduce its environmental footprint, creating democratic design, crafted from responsible materials and methods.
HAY Colour Crate House first wowed visitors at 3 Days of Design in Copenhagen. It has since travelled around the world and now finally makes it way down under to pop up at HAY Melbourne for Saturday Indesign and two weeks afterwards.

RECYCLED MATERIAL /
In looking at ways to reduce impact on the environment, HAY has begun using 100% recycled polypropylene derived from material from households to produce some of its bestselling ranges.
Post-consumer recycled plastic is material derived from household waste, like televisions and washing machines. The plastic is collected, sorted and cleaned in recycling programmes, before being reprocessed into HAY furntiure and accessories.
ABOUT A COLLECTION ECO /
The About A Collection (AAC) is now made from 100% post-consumer recycled plastic, taking Hee Welling’s iconic seating collaboration with HAY in a more sustainable direction.In addition, the wooden bases are sourced from FSC-certified forests, with all the chairs and stools in the AAC Eco range featuring the EU Ecolabel.
